La Malinche is a physical manifestation of the duality that each Mexican represents; both the "still-living past" and adaptive amorphous present. She is understood as the embodiment of both treachery and antiquity, the victim and the purveyor. It can then be understood how symbolic and integral a character she represents, as she stands as both an answer and an investigation into the dual conflict each Mexican may come to surmise.
